S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), inaugurated the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Chip Design at its Noida campus yesterday. This milestone initiative, established in collaboration with SoCTeamup Semiconductors Pvt Ltd, a DPIIT-recognized startup, underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its semiconductor design and development capabilities.
The newly launched Centre of Excellence aligns with the Government of India’s vision to enhance semiconductor technology expertise and position India as a global leader in the Electronics and IT sectors. The CoE is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the increasing demand for skilled professionals in semiconductor and chip design by providing world-class research, innovation, and training facilities in VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) and Chip Design.
The Centre aims to accelerate India’s progress in VLSI and chip design while nurturing an ecosystem that supports cutting-edge research, academic excellence, and industry collaboration. By equipping professionals with specialized knowledge and practical experience, the CoE is poised to create a highly skilled workforce that will cater to the growing global semiconductor industry needs.
During the inauguration ceremony, S. Krishnan toured the Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Project Lab and Smart Classroom. The Project Lab will serve as a collaborative platform for students, professionals, and researchers working on innovative chip design projects. The Smart Classroom, equipped with advanced teaching aids, will provide an immersive and interactive learning experience for students.
A special demonstration of VLSI-based Intellectual Property (IP) was conducted at the event, emphasizing the Centre’s dedication to fostering intellectual property development in the semiconductor sector. The demonstration showcased the CoE’s potential in cultivating a robust knowledge base in VLSI and developing talent to cater to the evolving needs of the industry.
With this initiative, NIELIT’s Centre of Excellence in Chip Design is set to become a hub for technological advancements, research excellence, and workforce development in semiconductor technology, further reinforcing India’s emergence as a global powerhouse in Electronics and IT.
