Samir Chandra Saxena Appointed CMD of GRID-INDIA

Samir Chandra Saxena has officially assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA), formerly known as POSOCO, with effect from May 1, 2025.

Prior to this appointment, Saxena served as Director (Market Operations) on the Board of GRID-INDIA, where he played a pivotal role in steering critical aspects of India’s power system and electricity market operations.

An alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University, Saxena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He also holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, and has completed a Certificate Course in “The Regulation of the Power Sector” from Comillas Pontifical University, Italy.

With close to three decades of experience, Saxena has contributed extensively across the power sector landscape—including Power Market Operations, System Operations, Electricity Market Design, Renewable Energy Integration, and SCADA-IT systems. He has also been instrumental in shaping the REC Market Design & Operations and advancing regulatory frameworks.

On the international stage, Saxena represents India in the CIGRE Study Committee C5 on Electricity Markets and Regulation, reflecting his commitment to global dialogue and collaboration in power sector reforms and market development.
