‘It is expected that the age in your State/UT has now been aligned to 6+ for admission to Grade I, accordingly,’ the letter states, indicating a firm push towards implementing this age requirement uniformly.
This move aims to bring about a standardized approach to Grade 1 admissions, ensuring that children across the country begin their formal education at a consistent age. By adhering to the six-plus age requirement, the Education Ministry seeks to enhance the educational experience for young learners, in line with the modern educational frameworks outlined in the NEP 2020.
The alignment with the RTE Act, 2009, further reinforces the government’s commitment to providing free and compulsory education to all children, starting from the foundational years.
As the 2024-25 session approaches, educational authorities in states and Union territories are expected to make the necessary adjustments to accommodate this new age requirement for Grade 1 admissions. This move is poised to have a far-reaching impact on the education system, ensuring a more uniform and consistent educational experience for young students across the nation.
