The Tamil Nadu government signed investment agreements worth ₹32,554 crore, paving the way for nearly 50,000 new jobs across the southern districts of the state. The announcements marked a significant step in the state’s ongoing drive to decentralize industrial growth and create employment opportunities across regions.
Chief Minister M. K. Stalin also inaugurated projects valued at ₹2,530 crore, including the much-anticipated VinFast electric vehicle manufacturing unit in Thoothukudi.
‘Progress in all sectors is our priority—be it electric vehicle manufacturing, semiconductor fabrication, or solar cell production. We are building an inclusive and diversified industrial ecosystem,’ CM said.
A key highlight was the announcement of a 250-acre space park to be developed in Thoothukudi, along with a new PSU focused on shipbuilding, reinforcing the district’s growing industrial significance.

Reports also indicate that discussions are underway involving HD Hyundai, the world’s largest shipbuilder, and Cochin Shipyard to explore setting up a shipbuilding unit in South India.
Industries Minister T. R. B. Infrastructure and facilities are world-class, and our educated youth, especially women, are finding new opportunities,’ he said.
