The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday announced that students have been permitted to pursue two full-time academic programmes in physical mode. The UGC has framed a set of guidelines regarding the same and is available on its official website.
The guidelines regarding pursuing dual-degree programmes will be applicable to all the programmes available across the country. The interested students can either choose a combination of diploma programmes and an undergraduate degree, two master’s programmes or two-degree programmes. A student eligible to pursue a postgraduate programme and also aspire to enroll in an undergraduate degree in a different domain, he/she can pursue a UG and PG degree simultaneously. Students must ensure that the timing for both classes should not clash.
The eligibility criteria for each of the UG and PG programmes will remain unchanged and the admission procedure will be as per the existing UGC, university norms.
UGC chairman, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said, “A student can pursue two full-time academic programmes in the physical mode provided that in such cases, class timings for one programme do not overlap with the class timings of the other programme. Universities will have the flexibility to decide if they want to offer such a scheme of programmes or not. The guidelines will only be applicable to lecture-based courses, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma programmes. MPhil and PhD programmes will not fall under the same scheme.”
