Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting Puducherry on April 24. During his visit, he will lay the foundation stones for three academic buildings at Pondicherry University. Shah is visiting the varsity on the occasion of 150 birth anniversary of Shri Aurobindo, an Indian philosopher, yoga guru, maharishi, poet, and Indian nationalist. Chief Minister of Puducherry, Natesan Krishnasamy Rangasamy, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, and other ministers will also be attending the event.

Rs 48.66 crores will be invested for constructing the structure of Department of Physics and Chemistry and a new building for the Department of Food Science and Technology in the main university campus.
According to the university, the Department of Chemistry will be built covering an area of 3260 square metres comprising of a G+3 multi-storied building equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The Department of Physics will be constructed in an area of 2835 square metres comprising G+3 multi-storied buildings. The Department of Food Science and Technology will be built in an area of 4909.60 square metres having a G+3 multi-storied building.
