India’s coal sector continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience and growth, achieving steady progress in both production and dispatch during the period from April 2024 to January 2025. The latest figures highlight the sector’s strong performance and its crucial role in ensuring the country’s energy security and economic growth.
Total coal production for January 2025 reached 104.43 million tonnes (MT), marking a 4.38% increase from the 100.05 MT recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year. Notably, Captive, Commercial, and Other Entities contributed significantly, producing 19.68 MT, which reflects an impressive 31.07% rise from 15.01 MT in January 2024.
On a broader scale, cumulative coal production up to January 2025 has climbed to 830.66 MT, registering a 5.88% increase from the 784.51 MT recorded during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Similarly, coal dispatch has kept pace with this growth. The total coal dispatch for January 2025 stood at 92.40 MT, reflecting a 6.31% increase from 86.92 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year. Dispatch from Captive and Other Entities also showed remarkable growth, reaching 17.72 MT in January 2025 as compared to 13.64 MT in January 2024, an increase of 29.94%.
Cumulatively, the total coal dispatch up to January 2025 has risen to 843.75 MT, marking a 5.73% increase from 798.02 MT recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year.
