New Delhi: Starting from the academic year of 2023-24, students in grades one and two will be studying from new textbooks formulated by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
The textbooks, based on the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS) 2022, aim to offer a better learning experience to the students. Mridang for English, Joyful- Mathematics, and Anadmay-Ganit for Maths, and Sarangi for Hindi are some of the books included in the fresh set of textbooks, which focuses on play-based learning at the foundation level.
The new generation textbooks provide a holistic approach to children's learning, as envisioned by the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
The launch of the books was announced by the Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, at the 58th Meeting of the General Council of NCERT.
The initiative marks the beginning of a new era of learning as the updated NCERT textbooks were introduced after a gap of almost two decades since the previous National Policy on Education (1986).
These textbooks are available digitally in all scheduled Indian languages and will gradually be available in physical form. The government is working to support the District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs) and State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) in providing the required training to teachers who play a crucial role in students’ success.
