New Delhi: India and Trinidad and Tobago have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning the sharing of INDIA STACK, which is a compilation of open APIs and digital public goods designed to enhance identity, data, and payment services on a large scale.
Both parties have agreed to collaborate in the field of digital transformation through activities such as capacity building, training programs, exchange of best practices, sharing of public officials and experts, as well as the development of pilot or demo solutions.
This collaboration occurred after the meeting between Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, and Hassel Bacchus, Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Digital Transformation last week.
During the meeting, they engaged in discussions regarding collaboration in the fields of IT, cutting-edge technologies, and the India stack, with the aim of fostering cooperation.
Highlighting the importance of India Stack offerings, MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a firm believer in the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), has actively promoted the adoption of India Stack by countries worldwide, particularly those that have lagged in their digitalization efforts. By leveraging India Stack, these countries can rapidly ascend the digitalization ladder, leading to significant transformations in their economies and governance.
Furthermore, he added that India Stack would foster a dynamic ecosystem of startups, developers, and system integrators, who would collaborate to drive Next-Gen innovations.
The MoU was signed in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Electronics and IT, National E- Governance Division, MeitY, and from the Ministry of External Affairs.
Since June 2023, India has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various countries such as Armenia, Sierra Leone, Suriname, and Antigua & Barbuda, aiming to share India Stack. Additionally, countries like Mauritius and Saudi Arabia have expressed their keenness to collaborate on IndiaStack and are currently in advanced stages of finalizing cooperation. Demonstrating the global interest and acceptance of this initiative, a similar MoU was signed with Papua New Guinea just last month. Furthermore, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which is a crucial component of India Stack, has gained recognition and acceptance in countries like France, UAE, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.
