New Delhi: In an effort to empower individuals with disabilities and senior citizens, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in coordination with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), organized ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivirs’ simultaneously in 72 locations across the country.
These camps have been organized to distribute a wide range of aid and assistive devices to more than 12,814 senior citizens who have been selected in advance, as part of the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana initiative by the Government of India.
The purpose of organizing these camps is to foster a holistic vision for an all-encompassing society throughout the nation, ensuring the empowerment and honorable existence of older individuals. The goal is to enable them to lead impactful, secure, and esteemed lives.
Various types of assistive devices were distributed to beneficiaries, encompassing foot care units, spinal support, wheelchairs with commode, spectacles, dentures, silicone cushions, LS belts, tripods, knee braces, and walkers. These assistive devices aim to enhance the self-reliance and empowerment of beneficiaries, enabling them to seamlessly integrate into society’s mainstream.
The event commenced with broadcasting of ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Then after, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment by Dr. Virendra Kumar inaugurated the main event at Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh which was the center point of the function connect online with various location across 20 states/union territories.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar said that the adhering the mantra of the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ the Ministry is implementing various centralized schemes for social, cultural, educational, and economic empowerment of Sr. Citizens to create an inclusive and accessible environment for them to ensure their overall development.
The Ministry has placed significant emphasis on utilizing new technology to create high-quality aids and assistive devices for both Divyangjan and Senior Citizens. The department is now specifically focusing on incorporating 3D scanning technology in the production of prostheses. Tikamgarh has become the first district to benefit from this innovative initiative.
