Inauguration of New Terminal Building Elevates Dehradun Airport’s Connectivity

To bolster air connectivity in Uttarakhand, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, inaugurated the new Terminal Building at Dehradun Airport, on Wednesday. The ceremony, attended by Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, marked a pivotal moment in the state’s aviation infrastructure development.

The newly unveiled Terminal Building, a culmination of meticulous planning and execution, is set to redefine travel experiences for passengers traversing through the Air Gateway of Garhwal. With an expansive area spanning 42,776 square meters, the terminal stands as an icon of modernity while encapsulating the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand.

Addressing the gathering, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia emphasized the strategic importance of the new infrastructure. ‘The expansion of Dehradun Airport’s Terminal Building underscores our commitment to fostering seamless connectivity in Uttarakhand. Through phased development, we have amplified the airport’s capacity by tenfold, ensuring enhanced operational efficiency,’ stated the Union Minister.

Highlighting the broader vision for aviation enhancement in Uttarakhand, Scindia outlined ongoing projects aimed at bolstering air connectivity across the state. ‘In addition to Dehradun, we are upgrading airports in Pant Nagar and Pithoragarh, alongside the establishment of seven new heliports. These endeavors align with our goal of expanding accessibility to remote and scenic locales within Uttarakhand,’ he added.

The architectural marvel of the new Terminal Building reflects a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. Drawing inspiration from local heritage, the design elements narrate stories of Uttarakhand’s cultural richness. Noteworthy features include columns reminiscent of the revered Brahmakamal flower, symbolizing tranquility and sustainability.

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the Terminal Building is poised to accommodate the growing influx of passengers. With 48 check-in counters, 4 conveyor belts, and 12 baggage X-ray machines, seamless passenger facilitation remains a top priority. Moreover, provisions for Divyangjans ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all travelers.
