SJVN Starts Commercial Operations of 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station: Uttar Pradesh

SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna, Category-I and Schedule ‘A’ Central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has reached a significant milestone today with the successful commencement of commercial operations at its 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh.

Executed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the renewable arm of SJVN, the Gujrai Solar Power Station represents a key step towards the country’s non-fossil-fuel-based energy generation. The project, completed at a cost of Rs. 281 crores, is poised to generate an annual revenue of approximately Rs. 32 crores. It is projected to produce 107 million units of energy in its first year alone, with a cumulative energy generation estimate of 2,477 million units over its operational lifespan of 25 years.

Chairperson & Managing Director, Geeta Kapur, expressed SJVN’s commitment to bolstering India’s renewable energy capacity, aiming to contribute to the target of achieving Net Zero by 2070. SGEL secured the grid-connected solar project through a Tariff-based Competitive Bidding Process conducted by the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) in November 2022, securing a tariff of Rs. 2.98 per unit. The Power Purchase Agreement for this project has been finalized with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for a duration of 25 years.

This achievement adds to SJVN’s growing portfolio of renewable projects, aligning with its vision of reaching an installed capacity of 25 GW by 2030 and 50 GW by 2040. The 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station is a testament to SJVN’s ongoing efforts to drive sustainable energy solutions and contribute to India’s energy security.

SJVN Limited, with a total installed capacity of 2,277 MW across ten operational power stations, continues to be a leading player in India’s energy landscape, playing a pivotal role in the nation’s journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.
