COVID-19 vaccination for kids aged 12 to 14 years

The Health Ministry has announced that from Wednesday, kids aged 12 to 14 years will be able to get their Covid-19 vaccines as the Centre has decided to expand its inoculation drive. Children born in 2008, 2009, and 2010 (above the age of 12) will eligible to get their shots from March 16. It has further said that they have taken into account who is eligible for these jabs and what vaccines will be used to inoculate the kids.

According to the Health Ministry, Corbevax manufactured by the Hyderabad-based Biological-E will be used to inoculate kids in 12 – 14 age groups. Corbevax is India’s first indigenously developed Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) protein subunit vaccine.

The drug approval agency of India has granted the emergency use authorization to the vaccine. The vaccine can be now administered to children aged 12 to 18 years. At present, the population above 14 years of age is being administered Covid-19 vaccines under the ongoing inoculation program.
