The Ministry of Defence has signed a landmark contract with M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for the Short Refit and Dry Docking (SRDD) of INS Vikramaditya, India’s premier aircraft carrier. The agreement, valued at ₹1207.5 crore, aims to significantly enhance the operational readiness and combat capability of the carrier, which was commissioned into the Indian Navy in November 2013.
Once the refit is completed, INS Vikramaditya will rejoin the Indian Navy’s active fleet, equipped with upgraded systems that bolster its combat and operational effectiveness.
This ambitious project positions Cochin Shipyard Limited as a pivotal Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub, strengthening India’s industrial ecosystem and maritime capabilities. The project is expected to involve around 50 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), generating employment for over 3,500 personnel.
This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India missions, reflecting a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing and boosting the nation’s maritime infrastructure.
