Amit Sharma, IAS (2012 Batch Officer)

IAS Officer Amit Sharma is currently serving as the Secretary to the Government of Mizoram in the Information, Communications & Technology (ICT) and Cooperation Departments. With an illustrious career spanning decades, Sharma has consistently showcased his dedication to administrative reforms, e-governance, and sustainable development, leaving an indelible mark in each of his assignments.
Academic Background: He pursued the Executive Post Graduate Program in e-Governance (EPGP-eGov) at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore, during 2013–2014, graduating with distinction. During his tenure at IIM, he undertook a 21-week internship with Ernst & Young (EY) in Mumbai, where he developed innovative e-governance solutions to simplify government operations in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).
Administrative Career: Sharma’s career reflects a rich tapestry of impactful roles across various government departments. Since October 2024, he has been serving as Secretary in Mizoram, leading ICT and Cooperation initiatives. Before this, he held significant positions in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. As the Administrative Reforms Secretary in J&K from March 2022, he spearheaded reforms, conducted administrative inspections, and facilitated capacity-building efforts, ensuring efficiency in governance.
From July 2023 to October 2024, Sharma served as Secretary to the Government of UT Ladakh, overseeing critical administrative tasks and contributing to the region’s sustainable growth. Prior to this, he was the Administrative Secretary of J&K’s Mining Department, where he introduced policy changes to streamline operations and increase transparency.
One of Sharma’s notable contributions was during his tenure as Special Secretary in the Department of Forest, Ecology, and Environment in J&K.
Technological Visionary in Governance: Amit Sharma has been at the forefront of leveraging technology to revolutionize governance. During his stint as Administrative Secretary in J&K’s IT Department and as the CEO of the J&K e-Governance Agency (JaKeGA) in 2021–2022, he spearheaded several e-governance projects.
His leadership as the Administrator of Government Medical College (GMC) & Associated Hospitals in Jammu from 2019 to 2020 showcased his ability to manage complex healthcare systems effectively, especially in challenging scenarios.
Longstanding Experience in Public Administration: With over two decades of experience in the IAS, Sharma has held diverse portfolios, including Special Secretary in the Transport Department and Deputy Director of Tourism in J&K. His early career as Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Dudu Basantgarh, Udhampur, highlighted his grassroots-level contributions to improving livelihoods and empowering communities.
