Anupama Nilekar Chandra Appointed DG (Investigation), NHRC

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Anupama Nilekar Chandra (IPS: 1994: BH) as the new Director General (Investigation) of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Chandra, who currently serves as Special Director General in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), will take over from Anand Swaroop (IPS: 1992: UP), who has been moved to the Ministry of Home Affairs as Special Secretary (Internal Security).

She will serve in the role until her superannuation on March 31, 2031.

Chandra’s appointment strengthens the leadership at NHRC, bringing her vast expertise in policing, border management, and investigative oversight to one of India’s top human rights bodies.
