In a move towards advancing healthcare and medical research, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) under the Ministry of Defence and the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on January 10, 2024.
The MOU outlines a comprehensive framework for joint research projects, academic activities, and a faculty exchange program. The collaboration is expected to address multidisciplinary scientific and technological challenges in the realm of healthcare and medical sciences.
Under the agreement, faculties from both institutions will engage in exploring and utilizing the available facilities for investigations, research, and patient care services. The focus will be on pooling resources and expertise to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery and promote cutting-edge medical research.
A key aspect of the collaboration is the faculty exchange program, which will facilitate seamless movement of educators and researchers between AFMS and AIIMS. This initiative is set to provide a platform for shared learning, skill development, and the exchange of innovative ideas.
To oversee and streamline the collaboration efforts, a collaboration board consisting of five members from both AFMS and AIIMS has been established. This board will conduct monthly meetings to evaluate ongoing projects, identify new areas for collaboration, and ensure the smooth functioning of the partnership.
The signing ceremony, attended by top officials, including Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) Lt Gen Daljit Singh and AIIMS Director Professor M Srinivas, marked the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at fostering collaboration in various areas of mutual interest.
Speaking on the occasion, DGAFMS Lt Gen Daljit Singh expressed optimism about the transformative impact of the collaboration, stating, ‘This partnership represents a convergence of military and civilian healthcare expertise. By combining our strengths, we aim to elevate the standards of medical research and healthcare delivery, ultimately benefiting the larger community.’
AIIMS Director Professor M Srinivas echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential for groundbreaking discoveries and advancements in healthcare through joint efforts. ‘The synergy between AFMS and AIIMS holds immense promise for the future of medical science. Our joint endeavors will contribute significantly to addressing the healthcare challenges of our times,’ he remarked.
As the collaboration takes its first steps, the AFMS and AIIMS partnership is poised to become a beacon for similar initiatives, setting new benchmarks in the field of medical research and healthcare collaboration.
