In a landmark move aimed at enhancing medical care for armed forces personnel, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) has forged a strategic partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. Signed on April 22, 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding between the two entities aims for collaborative research and training initiatives.
The MoU, inked by Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Lt Gen Daljit Singh and Director IIT Delhi Prof Rangan Banerjee, outlines a comprehensive framework for joint endeavors. At its core is a commitment to pioneering research and innovation in medical technology, with a specific focus on addressing the unique health challenges faced by soldiers deployed in diverse terrains.
With its renowned biomedical research ecosystem, IIT Delhi is well-positioned to provide the technical expertise necessary for tackling complex medical issues encountered by the Armed Forces. Notably, the collaboration will delve into developing novel medical devices and advancing rehabilitation techniques for amputees, among other critical areas.
Under the ambit of the MoU, a range of collaborative activities is envisaged, including a faculty exchange program, joint academic initiatives, and the development of joint PhD programs. These initiatives are poised to foster a vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas between AFMS and IIT Delhi, ultimately bolstering both institutions’ capacities for cutting-edge research and education.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Daljit Singh emphasized AFMS’s unwavering commitment to delivering the highest standard of medical care to servicemen and women. He underscored the significance of partnering with esteemed institutions like IIT Delhi in fulfilling this noble mission.
Echoing this sentiment, Prof Rangan Banerjee of IIT Delhi hailed the MoU as a testament to the boundless potential for collaborative research and training endeavors that benefit not only the armed forces but also the nation at large.
