In a major development at the seventh session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly held in New Delhi, Ashish Khanna from India has been appointed as the new Director General of ISA. Khanna’s selection follows a competitive process in which he was chosen over Wisdom Ahiataku-Togobo of Ghana and Gosaye Mengistie Abayneh of Ethiopia.
As Director General, Khanna will be instrumental in leading ISA’s mission to promote solar energy deployment globally, aiding Member Countries in addressing shared energy challenges, and accelerating the transition to solar-based energy solutions. During the Assembly, he outlined his vision to enhance ISA’s impact by focusing on practical implementation strategies. Emphasizing the shift from ‘what’ needs to be achieved to ‘how’ it can be accomplished, Khanna highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among countries to advance global solar goals.
‘The Alliance must focus on exploring collaborations and learning from shared experiences,’ Khanna stated, pledging to build on existing partnerships and ensure ISA’s effectiveness through clear intentions and measurable outcomes.
With over 120 Member and Signatory countries, the ISA is committed to expanding global energy access and achieving a carbon-neutral future through solar power. Its mission includes mobilizing US$1 trillion in investments by 2030 and enhancing solar technology across sectors such as agriculture, health, transport, and power generation.
