Education Ministry conducts ‘Foundational Learning Study’ to drive NIPUN Bharat Mission

The Union Education Ministry is conducting a ‘Foundational Learning Study’ with an aim to assess the learning levels of students up to Grade 3. The main objective of the study is to undertake the assessment to establish a baseline for the NIPUN Bharat Mission. It is conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in all the union territories and states over a period of four days from March 23 to 26.

Around 10,000 schools and one lakh students from the samples schools are expected to be a part of this study. The statement released by the education ministry stated, “The study is the first-of-its-kind in the world as it aims to set up benchmarks for reading with comprehension in 22 Indian languages.”

The National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bahrat) was launched by the ministry in 2021 to ensure that by 2026-27, all the children in the country necessarily attain foundational literacy and numeracy till they complete Grade 3.
