UGC urges universities to introduce foundation course on Human Values and Professional Ethics

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged all the universities to introduce a Foundation Course on Human Values and Professional Ethics at the undergraduate level. UGC has approved modified guidelines on ‘Mulya Pravah-Inculcation of Human Values and Professional Ethics in Higher Education Institutions.

As per the new guidelines, varsities has to conduct training and workshops to encourage students to actively participate in national programs such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Fit India, Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan, and also engage with Non-Governmental Organisations and other organizations working for the social cause.

The universities must give assignments and projects on human values, appoint a ‘Value Officer’ each, and also conduct a ‘value audit’ of human values and professional ethics across higher educational institutes.  Moreover, it will also ask the students and staff unions to help the administration take the right decision timely and bring into notice the legitimate issues in a dignified manner.
