IAS officer Nitin Kareer officially took charge as the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra on Sunday. His appointment follows the Centre’s decision to deny an extension to the outgoing Chief Secretary, Manoj Saunik.
Nitin Kareer, a seasoned bureaucrat from the 1988 batch, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Finance Department. Throughout his distinguished career, Kareer has earned accolades for his outstanding contributions to various administrative initiatives.
One of his notable achievements includes receiving the Satyen Mitra award in 1998 for spearheading an exemplary adult literacy program during his tenure as the Collector of Sangli. His commitment to innovation and efficiency was further recognized on the national stage when he clinched the first prize for national e-governance in 2002. This recognition was a result of his efforts in computerizing land transactions in the Registration Department.
In 2013, Kareer once again demonstrated his prowess in e-governance by securing the state-level first prize for initiatives in the Sales Tax Department. His endeavors in this domain have not only garnered national acclaim but have also been acknowledged internationally. Notably, he received recognition for his pivotal role in developing an automated building plan approval system at the Pune Municipal Corporation, showcasing his commitment to cutting-edge solutions for public administration.
As Chief Secretary, Nitin Kareer is expected to bring his extensive experience and innovative approach to the forefront, steering the state administration towards effective governance and development.
