IIT Guwahati Initiates Measures for Mental Well-being

Guwahati: This year, IIT Guwahati organized a special session for the new batch of 2023 students, aiming to help them manage their personal and academic life in a stress-free and efficient manner. The session was attended by the students, their parents, and their siblings. This informative session shed light on the mental health support system provided by the Centre for Holistic Wellbeing at the institute, ensuring a professional, engaging, and informative experience for all attendees.

There will be compulsory counseling sessions for all newly enrolled BTech students, aiming to offer mental support and acquaint them with the available resources. These sessions will also assist in early identification of students who may require additional support. The counseling program is designed to be professional, engaging, and informative.

The institute has a team of six experienced individuals dedicated to assisting students in need. This includes four skilled counselors and two qualified psychiatrists. Counseling support services are available to students on all working days, from 9 am to 8 pm. Additionally, if the need arises, students can schedule appointments with the counselors outside of regular class hours.

As part of its commitment to fostering a supportive social environment and creating a sense of community, the institute has introduced a ‘Know your neighbors’ campaign.

To establish connections and promote interaction among students, ice-breaking sessions will be conducted within the hostels. These sessions will offer freshmen the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions facilitated by student counselors from the Center for Holistic Wellbeing.

Furthermore, a range of activities organized by the sports and cultural boards will be available to students during their leisure time. These activities will include motivational talks and screenings of educational documentaries, ensuring that students remain engrossed and engaged.
