India sets ‘new record’ by jabbing 2 billion vaccine doses

India achieved a significant milestone on Sunday by giving 2 billion doses of the Covid vaccine, one year after launching the largest coronavirus vaccination campaign in history. The nation has been attempting to step up immunisation efforts in response to widespread worries about new COVID-19 waves.

Seven phases made up the vaccine program’s completion. The development of various vaccines against the COVID-19 virus by India is a result of several systemic actions performed at the top level. In accordance with the “Make-in-India” and “Make-for-the-World” Strategies, India funded the research, development, and production of COVID19 vaccines under the aggressive and forward-thinking leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The COVID-19 immunisation effort was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16, 2021, for healthcare professionals, and on February 2 for frontline employees. Then, on March 1, there was a vaccination push for older adults (over 60) and those with co-morbidities (aged 45 to 59). The immunisation campaign for people 45 and older began on April 1. Persons 18 years of age and older (in the private sector/state priorities) began receiving vaccinations on May 1. As of June 21, 2021, all people who are 18 years of age and older are eligible for free vaccinations. Beginning on January 3, 2022, adolescents (aged 15 to 18) began receiving vaccinations early this year. India began giving preventive doses to frontline employees, senior folks, those with comorbidities, and healthcare staff on January 10, 2022.
India has “created history again”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday Congratulating all Indians on crossing the “special figure”, PM Modi said that he is “proud of those who contributed to making India’s vaccination drive unparalleled in scale and speed”. He added that it has “strengthened the global fight against Covid-19”.
