The goal of self-reliance in the defence sector, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is crucial for India in the twenty-first century. Mr. Modi said conducting the first Swavlamban seminar for an Aatmanirbhar Navy is a vital step in this approach while speaking at the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organization Seminar ‘Swavlamban’ in New Delhi this evening.

When India marks its 100th anniversary of independence, he remarked, the goal should be to elevate the Indian Navy to hitherto unheard-of heights. The first aim, he continued, is to develop 75 indigenous innovations, and this number should keep rising.
According to Mr. Modi, during the previous eight years, the government not only boosted the defence budget but also made sure that it was put to good use in the growth of the domestic defence manufacturing industry. He claimed that a significant portion of the funding set up for the purchase of defence equipment is being used to acquire goods from Indian businesses.
He pointed out that the challenges to national security are now more prevalent than ever before, and that warfare tactics are also evolving. According to Mr. Modi, the circle is moving into economic, social, cyber, and physical space. The Prime Minister emphasised the necessity to act in such a situation while predicting the problems to come and changing in line with those challenges.
The Prime Minister presented the “SPRINT Challenges” at the programme, which are meant to encourage the Indian Navy to use more homegrown technology.
