Tanzania: To strengthen global partnership, an MoU has been signed between the Education Ministry of India, IIT Madras, and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Zanzibar for setting up the IIT Madras- Zanzibar campus in Tanzania. The MoU was signed during a visit of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.
The setting up of IIT Madras will bring the expertise of premiere Institutions into Africa. It will also enhance the international presence as well as the global reputation of IITM. This major step will open doors of opportunities for Indian and global students. IITM will commence the program this October, along with student selection and pedagogy, and the degree will also be conferred by IITM.
This initiative is an embodiment of PM Narender Modi’s commitment to strengthen South-South cooperation as well as forge stronger people-to-people ties with Africa. NEP is paving the way for making knowledge a key component of bilateral relations as well as for advancing global good.
Along with promoting the Internationalization of Higher Education, it will also be a massive boost to diplomatic relations between India and African nations like Zanzibar, Tanzania.
In a tweet Dr. S. Jaishankar wrote, ‘Witnessed the signing of the agreement on setting up of IIT Madras Zanzibar campus. This historic step reflects India’s commitment to the Global South.’ He also appreciated the presence of President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi and all ministers.
