New Delhi: The Centre has recently appointed Jaya Verma Sinha as the CEO and Chairperson of the Railway Board, making her the first woman to ever hold that post in the Ministry of Railways’ 105-year-old history.
Sinha, who graduated from Allahabad University, joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in 1986 and has since gained valuable experience working in three different railway zones: Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway, and Eastern Railway.
The Indian Railway Management Services (IRMS) member, Jaya Verma Sinha, has been appointed as the Chairman & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), according to a recent government statement.
Sinha will take over from Anil Kumar Lahoti and assume her position on September 1 at the earliest. Her tenure will conclude on August 31, 2024. She is set to retire on October 1, but will be re-engaged on the same day for the remaining time in office. She played a prominent role in representing the railways following the tragic Balasore accident. In this capacity, she effectively communicated the intricacies of the signalling system to the media, ensuring a clear and comprehensive understanding.
During her four-year tenure as Railway Advisor in the High Commission of India in Dhaka, Bangladesh, she played a key role in the inauguration of the Maitree Express, a train service that connects Kolkata and Dhaka.
