KVIC to strengthen Wood Craft & Agarbatti Industry and boost local employment

Vinai Kumar Saxena, KVIC Chairman distributed turn woodcraft machines to 50 artisans in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, and 50 agarbatti making machines & 50 pickle making machines to the artisans residing in Guwahati, Assam.

Around 150 trained Khadi artisans including 100 women artisans from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are associated with various self-employment activities of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The KVIC has for the first time organized the turned wood training program for local youths in Arunachal Pradesh with an aim to create sustainable employment and revive the traditional woodcraft in the state. KVIC has provided training for 20 days to woodcraft artisans. Upon the successful completion of the training, the machinery was distributed to them.

Under the flagship Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), Saxena also distributed 50 agarbatti-making machines to 50 women artisans for setting up their own Agarbatti manufacturing units. This initiative will help to strengthen the local agarbatti industry, which is one of the biggest job creators in Assam. KVIC also collaborated with successful local Agarbatti manufacturers of the state, who will supply raw materials and buy all the Agarbatti produced by these 50 women entrepreneurs by paying labor charges.
