The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) has launched a six-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program aimed at enhancing the expertise of Ayush teachers, doctors, and scientists. Running from August 19 to August 24, 2024, this program is specifically designed to elevate the academic and therapeutic knowledge of participants by integrating Yoga into standard medical practices.
In his opening address, Dr. Kashinath Samagandi, Director of MDNIY, emphasized the significance of this initiative, sponsored by the Ministry of Ayush and supported by Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth. ‘This CME program is tailored to enhance the capacity of Ayush doctors by equipping them with evidence-based knowledge, enabling them to seamlessly integrate Yoga into their daily practice,’ said Dr. Samagandi.
The inaugural session featured Dr. K.K. Deepak, Visiting Professor at the Centre for Biomedical Engineering (CBME), who underscored the importance of research in Yoga. He highlighted the need for standardizing research methodologies, drawing parallels with the rigorous protocols in allopathic sciences. ‘Without proper research methodologies, the profound impact of Yoga on human life cannot be adequately evidenced,’ Dr. Deepak remarked. He also praised the Ministry of Ayush’s efforts, particularly through initiatives like the Ayurgyan scheme, which aim to upgrade research methodologies in Yogic sciences.
The program offers a comprehensive blend of traditional Yoga principles and the latest research insights. Esteemed Yoga research experts from across India have been invited to share their knowledge. Topics covered during the CME include Prop Yoga, Modulated Yoga Forms, Practical Demonstrations, Diet and Yoga, and the integration of Ayurveda and Yoga. Thirty selected participants from across the country have the opportunity to delve into these critical areas.
Sessions will focus on key topics such as the textual knowledge of Yoga, therapeutic applications, wellness practices, recent scientific trends in Yoga, and modern teaching methodologies. The overarching goal of the program is to deepen participants’ understanding of both traditional and contemporary scientific frameworks in Yoga.
This CME program is poised to play a crucial role in advancing the knowledge and skills of Ayush professionals, enabling them to effectively incorporate Yoga into their medical practice and contribute to the growing body of scientific evidence supporting Yogic practices.
