Ministry of Finance Invites Applications for Posts in GST Appellate Tribunal

The Department of Revenue (DoR), Ministry of Finance has announced vacancies for the appointment of Judicial Members, Technical Members (Centre), and Technical Member (State) in the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT). GSTAT, established under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 (CGST Act), serves as the second Appellate Authority to hear appeals under the CGST Act and respective State/UT GST Acts.

The recruitment drive aims to fill multiple positions across the Principal Bench located in Delhi and 31 State benches situated across various states. Candidates are invited to apply online through the DoR website starting from February 19, 2024. The application portal will remain open until March 31, 2024, until 1700 Hours.

Eligibility criteria for each position are delineated as follows:

  • Judicial Member (63 Posts): Candidates must be a Judge of the High Court, serving or retired District Judge or Additional District Judge with 10 years of combined experience, or lawyers with 10 years of experience specializing in litigation concerning indirect taxes.
  • Technical Member (Centre) (32 Posts): Applicants should be officers with at least 25 years of experience in Group A in the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Tax) or All India Service with a minimum of 3 years in indirect taxes or finance and tax in the Central Government.
  • Technical Member (State) (1 Post): Candidates must possess a minimum of 25 years of experience in Group A or equivalent in the State Government, not below the rank of Additional Commissioner of VAT of SGST, or All India Service, with a minimum of 3 years in indirect taxes or finance and tax in the State Government.

Applicants must be at least 50 years old (as on the last date of application) and the fixed monthly pay for the positions is ₹ 2,25,000. Other allowances and terms of service shall be as per the norms applicable to Central Government officers at Pay Level 17.

The selection process will be conducted by a Search-Cum-Selection Committee, which will scrutinize applications based on qualifications and relevant experience. Shortlisted candidates may be called for personal interaction if deemed necessary. The Committee will recommend a panel of suitable candidates to the Government for final appointments.
