DoWR will honor 41 winners across 11 categories.
New Delhi: Prepare to be surprised by the extraordinary accomplishments in Water Conservation and Sustainable Solutions that will take center stage at the 4th National Water Awards presented by the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti. The 4th National Water Awards will be conferred by the Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar on June 17, 2023, at an award distribution ceremony being organized at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The 4th National Water Awards, 2022 include a total of 41 winners, including joint winners, over 11 categories, according to the Department. Each award recipient will get a certificate, a trophy, and cash awards in some categories. A total of 41 winners, including joint winners, have been announced by the Department, across 11 award categories. Each award recipient will receive a citation and a trophy as well as cash prizes in certain categories.
The Award for the Best State will be conferred on Madhya Pradesh, 2nd prize will go to Odisha while 3rd prize will be given jointly to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. The Award for the Best District will be conferred on Ganjam District, Odisha while 2nd prize will go to Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu, and 3rd prize will be given to Adilabad District, Telangana. The Award for the Best Village Panchayat will be conferred on Jagannadhapuram Village Panchayat, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana, the 2nd prize will go jointly to Kadavur Village Panchayat, Karur district, Tamil Nadu and Manickal Village Panchayat, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala while 3rd prize will be given jointly to Kadegaon Village Panchayat, Jalna district, Maharashtra and Mawkyrdep Village Panchayat, Bhoi Rymbong Block, Ri Bhoi district, Meghalaya.

The National Water Awards aim to support the government’s goal of achieving a ‘Water Prosperous India’ by acknowledging the commendable work done by individuals and organizations. By doing so, it hopes to raise awareness about the significance of water and encourage people to adopt responsible water usage habits. The event also serves as a platform for people and organizations to team up and enhance public involvement in water conservation and management initiatives.
The Ministry of Jal Shakti launched a national campaign to promote water management and conservation, under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The goal is to encourage all stakeholders to take a comprehensive approach to managing water resources in the country.
As part of this effort, the ministry established the National Water Award to recognize those who make significant contributions to water resource management.
In 2022, the 4th National Water Awards were introduced on July 30th, 2022, on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs. By the final date of October 31st, 2022, a total of 868 applications were received, and these were carefully examined and assessed. The Central Water Commission and Central Ground Water Board conducted field visits to verify the accuracy of the shortlisted applications. After a thorough evaluation, 41 winners, including joint winners, were chosen for awards across all 11 categories.
