NTPC Mining Limited and CSIR-IMMT Sign MoU to Advance Sustainable Mining and Critical Minerals Research

To bolster India’s critical minerals landscape and promote sustainable mining practices, NTPC Mining Limited (NML) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on research and development in the field of mineral processing, critical minerals, and environmentally responsible mining technologies.

The agreement brings together the operational strength of NTPC Mining and the scientific excellence of CSIR-IMMT to jointly develop scalable, innovative solutions for mine planning, mineral beneficiation, and sustainable mine closure practices. This collaboration comes at a time when India is ramping up efforts under the National Critical Minerals Mission to ensure self-reliance in strategic mineral resources.

Shri Naveen Jain, CEO, NTPC Mining Limited & RED (Mining), NTPC, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, ‘This collaboration aligns with our vision to become a benchmark organization in safe, sustainable, and efficient mining through technological excellence and environmental stewardship. By leveraging NTPC Mining’s operational expertise and CSIR-IMMT’s cutting-edge R&D capabilities, we aim to accelerate advancements in mine planning, mineral beneficiation, and sustainable mine closure practices.’

Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IMMT, remarked, ‘This partnership comes at a crucial time as India intensifies efforts under the National Critical Minerals Mission. NTPC Mining’s strategic diversification into the critical minerals sector complements our mandate to provide science-led, scalable, and industry-relevant solutions. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration.’

The MoU was formally signed by Shri Naveen Jain and Dr. Ramanuj Narayan during a ceremony coordinated by senior representatives from both organizations. Dr. Kali Sanjay, Head of the Hydro, Bio & Electrometallurgy Department and Business Development, CSIR-IMMT; Shri Dhananjay Shrikhande, General Manager (Technical Services & Commercial); and Shri Anil Kumar Soni, Additional General Manager (Technical Services & Business Development), NTPC Mining Limited, played key roles in organizing the event.
