In a move to strengthening energy cooperation between India and Nepal, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for the formation of two joint venture companies.
The signing ceremony took place in the esteemed presence of Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Shri Dipak Khadka, Minister of Energy, Water Resources & Irrigation, Government of Nepal.
The MoU paves the way for the implementation of two high-capacity, cross-border transmission lines: the 400 kV Inaruwa (Nepal)–New Purnea (India) and the 400 kV Dododhara (Nepal)–Bareilly (India) double-circuit transmission systems. These strategic infrastructure projects are expected to significantly enhance electricity exchange and grid stability between the two countries, supporting regional energy security and economic development.
Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Personnel), POWERGRID, and Shri Kamal Acharya, Director of the Grid Operation Department, NEA, formalized the agreement by signing the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
