The President has appointed Rajiv Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election of Commission of India. He will oversee the 2024 elections.

As per the notification issued by the law ministry, Kumar will assume the charge of the office of the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from May 15, 2022, after incumbent Sushil Chandra demits office on May 14.
The Cabinet Minister of Law and Justice in the Government of India Kiren Rijiju took to his Twitter handle to extend his wishes to Rajiv Kumar, “In pursuance of clause (2) of Article 324 of the Constitution, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Rajiv Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from the 15th May 2022.”
