With the launch of RuPay payment card in Nepal, the country has become the fourth foreign country to operationalize the card. Prime Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba jointly launched the Indian electronic payment system in Nepal. The other three countries using RuPay card in Singapore, Bhutan, and United Arab Emirates.
PM Modi in his statement said, “Introduction of RuPay card in Nepal will add a chapter to our financial connectivity.”
The Ministry of External Affairs said the RuPay payment card launch in Nepal would promote new vistas for cooperation in financial connectivity, and is expected to aid in bilateral tourist flows as well as boost strengthen people-to-people linkages. In addition, the people familiar with the project said the launch of the card in Nepal will advance a new path to financial convenience and empowerment with the use of technology and innovation. Moreover, it will enable easy payment for RuPay cardholders and strengthen the payment ecosystem capabilities of Nepal.
