UIDAI Partners with Sarvam AI to Enhance Aadhaar Services with AI-Powered Solutions

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has entered into a strategic partnership with Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI, an indigenous full-stack Generative AI (GenAI) company, to enhance user experience while availing Aadhaar services. The agreement, which comes into effect from March 18, will introduce AI-powered voice-based interactions for Aadhaar number holders, ensuring better accessibility, security, and efficiency.

AI-Powered Voice Interactions for Enhanced User Experience

Under this partnership, Sarvam AI will deploy an advanced AI solution to facilitate voice-based interactions for resident-centric use cases. The AI-powered system will enable real-time feedback collection from Aadhaar number holders regarding their enrollment and update processes. Additionally, it will help identify and address concerns related to overcharging during Aadhaar-related services.

Real-Time Fraud Alerts for Increased Security

In a significant move to bolster security, the AI system will provide real-time fraud alerts to Aadhaar number holders. If the AI detects any suspicious activity during authentication requests, it will instantly notify users, ensuring a higher level of security and fraud prevention.

Multilingual AI Support for Greater Accessibility

Recognizing India’s linguistic diversity, the AI solution will support voice interactions and fraud detection in 10 languages, including Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, and Malayalam. UIDAI has confirmed that additional language support will be introduced in the coming months to further enhance accessibility.

Commitment to User-Centric Innovation

UIDAI has consistently prioritized user-centric innovation, striving to upgrade technology and improve the overall experience for Aadhaar number holders. The latest Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sarvam AI reflects UIDAI’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for public benefit.

As part of the collaboration, Sarvam AI has developed a custom GenAI stack, which will be hosted on-premise within UIDAI’s air-gapped infrastructure. Ensuring complete compliance with data sovereignty and security protocols, no data will leave UIDAI’s secure environment at any stage of operation. The agreement is initially valid for one year, with a provision for an extension for an additional year.

This groundbreaking AI solution was developed under UIDAI’s volunteer policy, which facilitates industry collaborations. Volunteers from Sarvam AI worked closely with UIDAI’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru to design and deploy the system. Importantly, the ownership of the AI solution remains with UIDAI.

Speaking about the initiative, Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, stated, “UIDAI is a people-centric organization. GenAI is the next technology evolution in UIDAI’s journey as a technology pioneer, building on our long-standing commitment to innovation for facilitating ease of living.”

Expressing enthusiasm about the collaboration, Vivek Raghavan, Co-Founder of Sarvam AI, remarked, “We are privileged to collaborate with UIDAI. This engagement exemplifies the immense potential of AI to drive public good.”
