By selecting the firms to carry out the work, Railtel Corporation of India, which was tasked with implementing the Video Surveillance System (VSS) project (CCTV cameras network) under the Nirbhaya Fund at Railway Stations, has made a significant advancement.

The project’s first phase, which will likely be finished by January 2023, will cover significant stations in categories A1, A, B, and C totaling 756 (a list of stations is attached). Phase 2 of implementation will include the remaining stations.
One of the Ministry of Railways’ main areas of attention is the safety and security of passengers.
Indian Railways is in the process of installing Internet Protocol (IP) based Video Surveillance System (VSS) at stations, including waiting areas, reservation counters, parking areas, main entrance/exit, platforms, foot over bridges, booking offices, etc., in order to improve security at railway stations, which are important hubs of transportation. The provision of a video surveillance system over Indian Railways’ key stations using Nirbhaya funds has been approved by the Ministry of Railways.
