In light of the upcoming General Elections, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the postponement of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2024. Originally scheduled for May 26, the exam will now take place on June 16, 2024. Candidates who have applied for the examination have been advised to check the official notice on the UPSC website at upsc.gov.in.
The decision to postpone the exam was made due to the scheduling conflicts with the 18th Lok Sabha elections, which are set to commence on April 19, 2024. The Civil Services Preliminary Examination also serves as the screening test for the Indian Forest Service Examination 2024.
The UPSC aims to fill approximately 1056 vacancies through this recruitment drive. This includes 40 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category. These vacancies are distributed as follows:
- 6 vacancies for candidates of blindness and low vision
- 12 vacancies for deaf and hard of hearing
- 9 vacancies for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy
- 13 vacancies for multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness

The official notification for the UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE) 2024 was issued on February 14. To be eligible to apply for the exam, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or have an equivalent qualification. Additionally, candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age.
The Preliminary Examination consists of objective type questions. The UPSC Prelims Paper 1 focuses on General Studies 1, covering a wide range of topics including national and international relations, Indian history, the Indian National Movement, India’s social geography, politics, governance, economics, social development, and environmental studies.
