In light of the recent government decision to include the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) in the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the opening of a new application window. The application window will be available from 18th October 2024 to 22nd November 2024 for new applicants wishing to apply for the ESE 2025.
This decision comes after the Ministry of Railways issued the Indian Railway Management Service (Amendment) Rules, 2024 on 9th October 2024, stipulating that recruitment for the IRMS will now be conducted through both the Civil Services Examination (CSE) for certain sub-cadres and through the ESE for technical sub-cadres, including Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Signal & Telecommunication, and Stores.
Aspirants who had already applied during the original application window from 18th September 2024 to 8th October 2024 do not need to reapply but may use the new window to update their particulars. Furthermore, a correction/edit window will be provided for all applicants from 23rd November 2024 to 29th November 2024 to make any necessary changes to their applications.
In light of these developments, UPSC has also decided to postpone the ESE (Preliminary) and ESE (Main) examinations for 2025, giving candidates more time to prepare. The ESE (Preliminary) 2025 will now be held on 8th June 2025, and the ESE (Main) 2025 will take place on 10th August 2025.
The original notification for the ESE 2025 was issued on 18th September 2024, with a last application date of 8th October 2024. Aspirants are advised to carefully review the Addendum to the Rules and Notice for ESE 2025, issued on 18th October 2024, before applying.
