Northern Coalfields Limited Launches Sustainable Initiatives Under Special Campaign 4.0

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a key subsidiary of Coal India Limited, is making significant strides toward sustainability through a series of innovative initiatives under the government’s Special Campaign 4.0. Focused on harnessing renewable energy, promoting health and hygiene, and embracing eco-friendly waste management, NCL’s initiatives align with India’s national development goals and its commitment to a cleaner, greener future.

Pioneering Clean Energy with Solar Projects

In a major push towards renewable energy, NCL has installed a 480 kW rooftop solar plant at its Jayant project. The company is further expanding its solar capacity by installing an additional 1.3 MW rooftop solar system across its IWSS Khadia, Bina, and Kakri areas. These solar projects will significantly reduce NCL’s carbon footprint, contributing to India’s ambitious renewable energy targets.

Promoting Health and Hygiene in Schools

NCL is addressing a critical health and hygiene issue for young women by installing sanitary napkin vending and disposal machines in four schools in the Singrauli region. This initiative benefits 1,850 female students, providing access to essential menstrual health products and fostering better hygiene practices.

‘Waste to Wealth’: Transforming Organic Waste

As part of its commitment to eco-friendly waste management, NCL has launched the ‘Waste to Wealth’ initiative. Through vermicomposting, NCL is converting cow dung and organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer in Birkunia and Khirwa villages. This initiative not only supports sustainable agriculture but also reduces reliance on chemical fertilizers, promoting healthier soil and a cleaner environment.

Cleanliness Drive and Scrap Disposal

NCL has launched a comprehensive cleanliness campaign, identifying 69 sites for beautification and cleaning, of which 23 have already been completed. Additionally, the company has disposed of 1,661 MT of scrap materials, making significant progress toward its goal of 2,180 MT. This effort reflects NCL’s dedication to maintaining cleanliness and minimizing waste.

Efficient Record and Space Management

Improving office efficiency is another focus of NCL’s Special Campaign 4.0. The company has successfully transferred 400 old files to record rooms and reviewed over 3,729 e-files and 207 physical files, leading to better utilization of office space and more streamlined operations.

Public Grievance Redressal and Responsiveness

NCL remains committed to public service, resolving 30 out of 37 grievances received during the campaign. This focus on timely grievance resolution highlights the company’s dedication to public satisfaction and responsiveness.
