Vikram Misri’s Tenure as Foreign Secretary Extended Until July 2026

Vikram Misri, an officer of the IFS from the 1989 batch, has been granted an extension as Foreign Secretary of India. This extension, which will extend his term until July 14, 2026, provides him with a total two-year tenure in the post, further strengthening India’s diplomatic efforts under his leadership.

Misri, who was due to superannuate on November 30, 2024, took charge as Foreign Secretary on July 15, 2024, following his role as Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA). Known for his strategic acumen and extensive experience in foreign affairs, he has held several significant positions, including India’s Ambassador to China, making him a valuable asset in India’s international relations landscape.
