Government Expands e-NAM Platform to 1,389 Mandis Across India

The National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting transparent price discovery and competitive trading for farmers through online platforms, has achieved significant milestones. As of today, 1,389 mandis across 23 states and four Union Territories (UTs) have been successfully integrated with the e-NAM platform.

Providing this update in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Ram Nath Thakur, highlighted that the platform now serves 1.78 crore farmers, 2.62 lakh traders, and over 4,250 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Agricultural trades valued at ₹3.79 lakh crore have been conducted on e-NAM, underscoring its pivotal role in enhancing market transparency and farmer incomes.

State-Wise Integration Details

States like Rajasthan (145 mandis), Tamil Nadu (157 mandis), and Gujarat (144 mandis) lead in mandi integration, reflecting their readiness and demand for the platform. Uttar Pradesh follows with 125 integrated mandis, while Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have brought 139 and 133 mandis, respectively, under e-NAM’s umbrella.

Even smaller states and Union Territories, including Goa (7 mandis), Tripura (7 mandis), and Chandigarh (1 mandi), have joined the digital trading network. Jammu & Kashmir has integrated 17 mandis, while Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands have brought two and one mandi, respectively, into the fold.

A Demand-Driven Initiative

Shri Thakur emphasized that e-NAM operates as a demand-driven scheme. States and UTs integrate their mandis based on their proposals and readiness to meet the platform’s infrastructure and technical requirements. This approach ensures efficient and seamless adoption of the platform nationwide.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening e-NAM as a transformative tool for India’s agricultural sector. By facilitating competitive online bidding, the platform not only ensures better price discovery but also minimizes market inefficiencies, directly benefiting farmers and other stakeholders.

The Road Ahead

With e-NAM’s current reach and ongoing efforts to onboard more mandis, the platform is poised to expand its impact, empowering farmers with technology-driven solutions for sustainable growth.
