The Government of India has announced with profound sorrow the death of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, on 26th December 2024 at AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi. Dr. Singh, a distinguished economist, statesman, and reformer, served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. He is widely recognized for his pivotal role in steering India toward economic liberalization in 1991 and his enduring commitment to national progress.
In honor of the departed leader, the Government has decided to observe seven days of state mourning throughout India from 26th December 2024 to 1st January 2025, both days inclusive. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the nation where it is regularly displayed, and there will be no official entertainment.
As a mark of respect, Dr. Manmohan Singh will be accorded a state funeral. The National Flag will also fly at half-mast on the day of his funeral in all Indian Missions and High Commissions abroad.
