BHASHINI Hosts Co-Creation Workshop on National Digital Infrastructure for Language Technology Solutions in Tripura

In a significant move towards strengthening digital infrastructure for linguistic diversity, BHASHINI, in collaboration with the Government of Tripura, organized a workshop titled “Building the National Digital Infrastructure” in Agartala. The event focused on co-creating innovative solutions to bridge language, digital, and literacy barriers while promoting inclusivity in digital services across Tripura.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders from various government departments, language experts, and technology leaders to discuss strategies for enhancing digital capabilities tailored to the linguistic diversity of the region.

The discussions centered on the four core pillars of BHASHINI, each highlighting a critical aspect of language technology development and accessibility. Bhashini Mitra focuses on developing advanced language tools and creating models for local languages, with a strong emphasis on incorporating new languages to promote linguistic diversity. Bhashini Udyat aims to break down language, digital, and literacy barriers, ensuring seamless access to digital systems for all users. Through Bhashini App Mitra, efforts are being directed toward supporting the development of multilingual, voice-first applications tailored for local languages, enhancing user engagement and accessibility. Lastly, Bhashini Pravakta emphasizes extending the reach of language technology solutions to the last mile through targeted outreach initiatives, ensuring that even the most remote communities benefit from these advancements. Together, these pillars form the foundation for an inclusive and linguistically empowered digital ecosystem.

Highlighting the importance of linguistic diversity, the workshop underscored the need to co-create AI-powered digital infrastructure that ensures equitable access to digital services, especially in regions with rich linguistic and cultural heritage like Tripura.

Driving Digital Transformation
BHASHINI, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is spearheading the National Translation Mission to develop and deploy AI-driven language technology solutions. The initiative is implemented by the Digital India BHASHINI Division, an Independent Business Division (IBD) of Digital India Corporation.

This collaboration with the Government of Tripura marks a milestone in advancing AI infrastructure to address regional language challenges and sets a benchmark for future partnerships.

Through this initiative, BHASHINI aims to empower every individual with access to digital services in their native language, thereby fostering inclusivity and bridging linguistic gaps in India’s digital transformation journey.
