Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das Appointed as Principal Secretary-II to PM Modi

Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary-II to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Das, a retired IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, will join Dr. P K Mishra, Principal Secretary-I to the Prime Minister.

Das brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as RBI Governor for six years, from December 2018 to December 2024. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in navigating India through critical financial challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic recovery.

As Principal Secretary-II, Das will advise PM Modi on local and foreign policies, leveraging his expertise in finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure. His appointment is effective from the date he assumes office and will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders.
