Currently, 15 lakh people are working directly or indirectly working at the Common Service Centres (CSC), under the Digital India Programme across the country. The network of CSC under the Digital India Programmes was developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The Common Service Centres project envisages the setting up of at least one Centre in each of 2.50 lakh Gram Panchayats across the country, for the delivery of various e-services to the citizens. He said that it is a self-sustainable entrepreneurship model which is run by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
This information was given by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
CSC is a platform enabling the delivery of essential public utility services, social welfare schemes as well as financial, healthcare, agriculture, and education services. It also hosts B2C services to citizens in rural and remote areas of India.
