Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane on Thursday launched the ZED scheme to facilitate MSMEs to adopt ‘Zero Defect Zero Effect’ practices and become energy efficient, and also enhance quality through increased compliance with the process of manufacturing.

The scheme also facilitates the MSMEs to reduce wastages significantly, save energy, boost productivity, enhance environmental consciousness, market expansion, use natural resources optimally, etc.
Addressing the launch event, MSME Minister said, “The ZED certification is a significant step towards improving quality, boosting manufacturing output, increasing the profit, and controlling the detrimental impact on the environment.”
The ZED scheme consists of three certification levels – bronze, silver, and gold. MSMEs can apply from any of these certification levels, but they comply with its set parameter. Twenty parameters have been mapped with certification under this scheme.
The MSMEs upon registration will have to undertake a ZED pledge. They will be entitled to a subsidy on the cost of ZED certification. The subsidy amount will be up to 80 percent of the certification cost for micro-enterprises, 60 percent for the small, and 50 percent for medium enterprises. The MSMEs owned by Women/SC/ST Entrepreneurs will get an additional 10 percent subsidy.
