UGC Launches Malaviya Mission Teachers Training Programme

New Delhi: Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Malaviya Mission – Teachers Training Programme by the University Grants Commission at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, with the objective of offering customized training programs for teachers.

He also inaugurated the Portal of the Programme and unveiled its information brochure. The Malaviya Mission – Teacher Training Programme, organized by the University Grants Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, aims to enhance the skills and capabilities of faculty members in higher educational institutions.

The two-week online program will focus on various themes that have been identified for the course curriculum/content with the aim of enhancing the professional development of faculty members at higher educational institutions.

The 8 themes encompass Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), Academic Leadership, Governance and Management, Higher Education and Society, Research and Development, Skill Development, Student Diversity and Inclusive Education and Information and Communication Technology. To support this transformative journey, the UGC has also established a dedicated portal for faculty members to enroll in the capacity-building programs.

The Programme is designed to equip educators with a comprehensive understanding of Indian values, preparing them for the future. Its main objectives are to enhance the quality of teacher training, foster leadership skills among teachers, and help achieve the goals outlined in the NEP. Additionally, the capacity building initiative under the Malaviya Mission will be aligned with the credit framework, ensuring clear career progression pathways for educators. The training sessions, organized thematically, will inspire participants to embody “Samagrata” (comprehensiveness). Notably, the Indian Knowledge System has been integrated into the program modules.

While initiating the training program for educators, Dharmendra Pradhan laid significant emphasis on enhancing the quality of education at all levels by integrating excellence and distinction into teaching methodologies and teachers themselves. Additionally, he made an announcement regarding the rebranding of the Human Resource Development Centers (HRDCs) as the Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers’ Training Centre. Furthermore, he highlighted that this initiative will facilitate constant professional growth and bolster the abilities of 1.5 million teachers in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India through the establishment of 111 Malaviya Mission centers in a timely manner.

The Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar emphasised on the role teachers play in the holistic development of the learners. He expressed that the teachers’ training programme shall help develop innovative teaching methods and high-level institutional facilities in all the constituent areas of higher education.
