Sudhansh Pant, a seasoned bureaucrat from the 1991 batch, has taken charge as the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, succeeding Usha Sharma. The appointment comes after Pant’s recent repatriation by the central government to his home cadre of Rajasthan, where he is ranked seventh in seniority among IAS officers.
His elevation to the position of Chief Secretary involved surpassing six officers in seniority within the Rajasthan cadre. Alongside his chief secretary responsibilities, Pant has been entrusted with the additional role of Chairman of Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Limited.
Pant’s diverse career includes key positions such as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and OSD in the same ministry. Before his central deputation, he held crucial roles in Rajasthan, including Director General of HCM RIPA and ex-officio Additional Chief Secretary (Training) in the state.
The government of India’s approval for Pant’s return to his home cadre underscores the significance of his appointment. This marks his third high-profile appointment in the past year, reflecting the government’s recognition of his expertise and leadership capabilities.
