The Government of India has granted a third service extension for Durga Shanker Mishra, the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, ensuring his continued tenure until June 30, 2024. This decision marks a significant continuation of Mishra’s role in the state administration, extending beyond the completion of general elections and the formation of a new government at the Centre.
Chief Secretary Mishra, a distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), had previously been granted one-year service extensions on December 30, 2022, and December 29, 2021. The latest extension, approved on December 30, 2023, comes a day before the conclusion of his second extension.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), operating under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, issued an official order confirming the extension. The order stated that Bhupinder Pal Singh, Under-Secretary to the Government of India, received a formal letter from the Uttar Pradesh government. The letter requested a six-month service extension for Chief Secretary Mishra, emphasizing the government’s confidence in his leadership and administrative capabilities.
This decision is seen as a strategic move, allowing Chief Secretary Mishra to continue his pivotal role in Uttar Pradesh’s governance during a crucial period that includes the general elections and the subsequent formation of a new government at the national level.
